The First Court of Appeals is one of fourteen intermediate appellate courts in Texas and is located in the historic 1910 Harris County Courthouse in downtown Houston. The First Court—along with its sister court, the Fourteenth Court of Appeals—serves ten Texas counties including Houston and most of the surrounding area. The Court consists of nine justices who hear appeals and certain original proceedings. The Court serves the following ten counties: Austin, Brazoria, Chambers, Colorado, Fort Bend, Galveston, Grimes, Harris, Waller, and Washington.
